Tui-na originated in ancient China and is considered to be the oldest form of bodywork. The term tui-na (pronounced twee-nah) literally translates to “pinch and pull” and refers to a wide range of Traditional Chinese Medicine therapeutic massage techniques.
Tui-na is used as a treatment to address specific patterns of disharmony and is used according to the same principles as acupuncture. Tui-na is often used in conjunction with acupuncture, but can also be used when acupuncture is inappropriate, such as for pets that will not tolerate needling. Tui-na works to harmonize imbalances by physically manipulating the qi in the acupuncture channels.
